MINUTES OF WHAPLODE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT

 WHAPLODE ST CATHERINE VILLAGE HALL

ON WEDNESDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2025

 

Present;

Cllrs Morris Stancer, Bob Merchant, Pam Langstaff (Chaired the meeting), Kevin Prince, Richard Barlow, Stephen Mackman.

The Clerk (minute taker), County Cllr Carey.

Apologies:

None.

Public Forum:

Two members of the public attended who expressed concern at the ongoing level and numbers of speeding motorists, lack of footpath and monitoring. County Cllr Carey gave an update regarding the volunteers scheme, upgraded fix my street platform and the need to report crime incidents to ensure accurate figures are recorded as this drives police numbers.

Members recorded their thanks to Cllr Beal for his past service following his resignation.

 

Minutes and Matters arising:

On the proposition of Cllr Langstaff seconded by Cllr Prince and agreed by all, the minutes of the meetings in June and August 2025 having been previously circulated were signed by the Chairman, as a true record.

On the proposition of Cllr Langstaff, seconded by Cllr Merchant and agreed by all, a further £200 was agreed for the cost of school transport relating to the Whaplode PCC 900 year celebrations.

Grass cutting in Whaplode Drove green – the Clerk will chase SHDC (Richard Knock) again.

 

Date & venue of the next meeting:

Finance meeting 8th October and full council 5th November at Whaplode St Mary church.

 

Planning applications,

The Clerk reported that applications had been dealt with as per annexed and circulated to members, there remains ongoing email traffic relating to the poultry farm in Peartree Lane Whaplode Drove.

 

Finance Report;

The Clerk reported the following cheques for payment which members agreed,

          G Hawkes salary & expenses    £     1,134.76

Allotments;

Cllr Beal had reported the problem tree in Whaplode Drove on fix my street which Cllr Langstaff will follow up as the wrong tree had been reviewed.

Millers Rest allotments 3,4,5,and 6 had been cleaned y Nigel Clayton who will be given a formal tenantcy agreement by the Clerk.

 

Highways:

Whaplode village – no new issues

Whaplode St Caths – pothole problem and road issues at Friday Bridge.

Saracens Head – no new issues.

Whaplode Drove – the seat outside the post office has been refurbished, the red phone box door needs repairing.

 

Whaplode Playing Field:

Cllr Merchant reported that it was being well managed, the Wryde wind farm grant has been received to repair the trim trail.

 

Whaplode St Catherines playing field:

The playing field has a bramble/hedge encroachment issue around the edges and needs flailing – the Clerk will request quotes.

 

Whaplode cemetery:

There is a tree down for which quotes are needed  to remove.

 

Land registration:

At the request of Mossop & Bowser the clerk has sent an over riding interest form.

 

Wryde wind farm grant:

Cllr Stancer reported that the Good Mood café were arranging a trip to Thursford, on the proposition of Cllr Merchant seconded by Cllr Barlow and agreed by all a grant of £1,000 was agreed.

 

Correspondence/AOB:

Cllr Barlow reported that the Whaplode St Mary celebrations went well.

Cllr Langstaff advised that a request to the Wryde Wind farm for defibrillator refurbishment should be considered and added to the agenda for the next meeting.
